Metal blinds are economical window treatments that are durable and attractive. With sleek styling and UV protection, metal blinds are an excellent option for those seeking traditional and affordable window treatments.

Sheer shades and blinds transform the light in your room while offering UV protection for your furniture, artwork and photos. Imparting sheer elegance, they allow an easy change light allowance, from light-filtering to light-blocking.

Transform your sliding glass doors and bay windows with the elegant style of Hunter Douglas vertical blinds. Vertical window treatments provide precise light control and come in a large selection of colors, opacities and textures.

Wood blinds come in a variety of colors, textures and slat sizes. Available in basswood, abachi, hardwoods and wood alternatives, Hunter Douglas wood blinds bring a traditional, stylish look to any room in your home.

Smart shades and blinds are motorized window treatments that can also be controlled with a smartphone app and with voice (using a smart speaker or a smartphone assistant like Siri). They can be set up to run on a customized schedule or automated Scenes, or integrated with home-automation software, including Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Samsung SmartThings, and Google Home.

We tested two pro-install companies to evaluate the potential benefits of going this route versus doing it yourself. Additionally, Lutron Serena offers the option of professional installation of its blinds and shades through Budget Blinds, and Graber sells directly through professional installers (see Pro install options for more on this).

We dismissed any smart shades or blinds that had poor reviews, especially due to customer support. And we also ruled out any models that required a third-party smart hub in order to function, because that can make installation more complex (though most models rely on their own branded wireless bridge or hub; some are included or can be added as an option at purchase).

The Lutron Serena Smart Wood Blinds are the quietest smart blinds we tested, and they work easily with Amazon Alexa and Google Home for both voice control and to add to Routines. The Lutron app lets you set the blinds on a schedule (in addition to the Natural Light feature) to open, close, or partially tilt based on a time of day or sunrise and sunset. You can add the blinds to Lutron Scenes to control in sync with your Lutron lighting, and set them to close or open based on your location. When paired with a temperature sensor through Amazon Alexa, they can also be set to close when the temperature rises in the room.

The blinds we tested are powered by four D-cell batteries (very small shades may use AA batteries), and there is no rechargeable option, but you can also order models that can be plugged in or hardwired. Installing the Lutron blinds was slightly trickier than it was for our budget pick, MySmartBlinds, since it required drilling. But it was straightforward, and the included instructions were clear. The process was very similar to that of the Lutron smart shades, as was the ordering process, which can be done entirely online.

The good news is that SmarterHome is merging its blinds and shades products into one app and one bridge (see What to look forward to). This change, slated for early 2022, will bring more and better smart-home integrations to the blinds. When it happens, we will update this review.

There are many places in the Indianapolis area to buy blinds, shades, and sheers. You can go anywhere to find these types of window coverings, but we recommend the experience of buying from a Hunter Douglas Centurion Gallery. Drapery Street is proud to be one of these galleries, offering the very best in products, pricing, and expertise to our clients.

For the cellular shades, we specified that we wanted four 3/8-inch single-cell, white, light-filtering cellular shades, 30 inches wide by 68 inches long. For blinds, we checked prices for four two-inch oak blinds (not faux wood) with regular cord lifts in any oak color (with no cloth tape). For the Roman shades, we again asked for four treatments, in white fabric. We also checked installation charges (for the local stores) and shipping charges (for online outlets). We asked each outlet for prices for its least expensive brand that met our specifications and for three specific brands of cellular shades, if it offered them. Keep in mind that there may be big quality differences among the various brands offered by the surveyed stores.

When you choose Hunter Douglas Blinds, there is no shortage of options for window treatments perfect for any kind of home environment. We carry a wide variety of Hunter Douglas brands that will turn any room into a comfortable space that provides natural light, but most importantly, privacy. From shutters, shades, drapes, or custom blinds, you can bet that at Roomers Window Fashions & More, we carry the products you need to enhance your room and embrace the natural light while also maintaining your privacy.

Smart lighting may be the easiest route into home automation, but nothing quite wows like motorized shades. Arguably the king of the category is Hunter Douglas, with a range of shades, blinds, rollers, shutters and more so wide, you'd be forgiven for feeling overwhelmed. If you've got an unusual window, though, that flexibility really pays off.

It's easy to use, with a motion sensor that lights up the buttons when you pick the remote up. Hunter Douglas offers a variety of different color housings, too, though the black one is subtle on the coffee table. Occasionally, I've found, hitting open or close doesn't trigger all of the blinds: three will move, but I have to press a second time to get the fourth to respond.

Fabric choice is a big one: I've not been able to find any other shade supplier with the same array of fabric colors and types as Hunter Douglas offers. For off-the-shelf blinds, a handful of finishes is typical. That's fine if you don't mind white or cream, but not if you want to match a certain paint color or upholstery fabric.

Meanwhile, the fact is that I wouldn't have been able to achieve this final result in any other way. The combination of top-down, bottom-up, motorized shade with rechargeable battery in a custom size to suit atypical windows is so far outside the remit of off-the-shelf blinds, there was just no route for me to go DIY. Though the cost is not-insignificant, it's also not outlandish for a home decor product with a lifetime warranty for the shades (bar normal wear and tear) and five years on the motorized components. Since PowerView integrates with other smart home platforms, you could feasibly mix-and-match with cheaper shade options on less unusual windows.

This Duette shade by Hunter Douglas is made of semi-opaque" single cell honeycomb fabric. Honeycomb shades are beautiful but also practical because of their energy efficiency. Distinguished by a crisp, clean style, the honeycomb construction of these soft, yet durable shades make them highly energy efficient. The patented design traps air to insulate from heat and cold so they keep your rooms cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. The fabric is soil and dust resistant and presents a neutral color to the street side. The shade provides superior UV protection (95% to 99%) and sound absorption is rated excellent to superior.
